Colombo Metropolis to light up for Vesak season

Several programmes have been planned in the Metropolis beginning from May 23 to May 26 to celebrate the Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Festival. The events will be held at Galle Face Green, Shangri-La Green, and Presidential Secretariat premises.

Buddha Rashmi Vesak Festival 2024 at the Gangarama Temple presents a great opportunity to attract tourists and promote the country’s tourism industry.

On Vesak Poya Day, May 23, an observance of Sil will be organized at Gangarama Temple, along with various other programs such as decorating the Vesak region with flags, pennants, lanterns, and light bulbs, conducting flower processions, and displaying pandols and lanterns. Dansalas, street dramas including Noorthi and Buddhist Jathaka stories, Tower Hall Noorthi Gee will be the unique features of the Vesak Zone.

The Bakthi Geetha (devotional songs) recital will be held near the main stage of the Presidential Secretariat and the Gangarama Temple while Vesak Dhansal will also be held near the Gangarama Temple and the Presidential Secretariat.

The Sri Lanka Navy, Civil Security Department,Youth Service Council, and Sri Lanka Army will hold Bakthi Geetha recitals and light Vesak illuminations at the stage built on the Shangri-La Green.
